Family Planning
This is dealt with during normal surgery hours. When a prescription suited to your needs has been agreed with your doctor please make appointments with the nurses for check-ups and repeat prescriptions. Coil and cap fittings require extra time so please mention this when making your appointment.
Maternity Care
If you already know you are pregnant/ or wish to discuss about possibility of pregnancy than please tell the receptionist who will allow extra time for your appointment. A general health check is usually performed to make sure you are fit during your pregnancy. Also an appointment will have to be arranged with an obstetrician for the antenatal care and future confinement. You will then be contacted by phone by our practice midwife for further management such as scan appointments, blood tests and attendance to the antenatal clinics. Antenatal clinics at our surgery are held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The midwife manages 90% of all antenatal care. If any problems arise he will either discuss with the GP or an obstetrician at the hospital.
Child Health Promotion
Please make an appointment at the reception for any concerns regards your newborn baby. However the surgery will contact you to bring your baby for a routine check at about 6- 8 weeks of age. You will also be advised about the baby vaccinations which start at 8 weeks of age. A health visitor will also make arrangements to see your baby during this time. Subsequent check-ups will be organized by the health visitor which usually takes place at 8 months and 2 to 2.5 years of age.
Diabetic Clinic
Clinics are held throughout the week. Our specially trained nursing staff will see you for this but you will also have to see a doctor when necessary. Ask reception for a Diabetic Clinic appointment. It is advisable that you have a 6 monthly check up and should also see your optician on a yearly basis. Many diabetic eye complications can be prevented by an early check up.
This is run on a regular basis by the nurses who have had a special training in the management of asthma. Ask at reception for details.
Minor Surgery
Minor lumps and bumps can be operated on under local anaesthesia at the surgery. You can arrange this procedure (if appropriate) with a doctor.
Smoking Cessation
A specially trained nurse is available for those patients who would like some help to give up smoking. Ask reception to book this appointment.
Travel Clinic
Please download and complete a travel form. Please allow 2 working days from handing the form in for our nurses to check whether you need an appointment for any vaccinations.
This service is for Robert Frew Medical Centre Patients only.
